This is my first ever blog and first part of the Netherlands trip .We (my husband and I) had been to the Netherlands this spring. It is a beautiful country with flat landscape (highest point is 10 meters), tulip fields, windmills, bikes and canals. I’m going to start with my favorite; Tulips. Keukenhof gardens and tulip fields around Keukenhof is the world’s largest flower garden; beautiful beyond words!
Here are our experiences…
Keukenhof garden is very colourful like postcard pictures.you can spend hours in the garden. The real fun was to explore tulip fields around. You can either hire a bicycle or go for a boat ride. We did both! The boat trip was, well oh-so-touristy, but good experience nevertheless.
Best part is when you bike around the tulip fields (you can hire the orange bike near the parking lot for € 10), you can stop whenever you want & see the fields and spend some quality time taking pictures. You just have to follow the route in the map which they provide when you hire a bike. The 25 km route is better than 5 & 10 km route so that you can see more and more beautiful fields.
It takes 1 hour to reach Keukenhof from Amsterdam. The best way to get there is to take a direct public transport bus no. 858 from Schiphol Airport.
We went by bus the first time and again after 2 days since we couldn’t have enough of those gorgeous tulip fields. We drove over to Keukenhof for exploring more fields. It is about an hour’s drive from Amsterdam.
Best time to visit: Mid-March to mid-May, end of April for full bloom. Timings are from 8:00 am to 7:30 pm. Last entry is allowed at 6:00 pm.
Cost: Garden entry is €16. It is not covered by museumkaart, you can use your gold ticket of Holland card. For public transport, you can use 24 hours free transport ticket in Holland card or you can buy combiticket which includes park entry and a round trip.
Direct tour buses are also available from Amsterdam Central Station. But with that you can spend only 3 hours in the park. So if you have the time, I would suggest you go by public transport and spend lot of time in and around the park.
